I’m Dr. Frank Gerace. You know, to get a proper English accent, one of the important things is value of the sounds.
In English, the P and the T in English are explosive! Did you ever notice someone with another accent? They would say something like, “Beter” or “Dhomas”, but in English its Peter and Thomas. The P and the T are pronounced with a blast of air. If you don’t do that it doesn’t sound like English. By the same token, if you do do it, you’ll have an English accent in Spanish or Italian or French. So, for example, say, “Peter, talk to me”. Put your hand in front of you, and you have to feel the blast of air on the back of your hand, “Peter. Thomas”. If you don’t feel that air on the back of your hand, it’s not the proper value of the sounds P and T in English. Practice it, it’ll be very good for you.
