Today, we are going to talk about how to get rid of verbal viruses. Those are annoying, non-words like: um, uh, like, you know. They’re real credibility killers and some people use them way too much. So here’s how to get rid of them:
Well, they are unconscious, so the first thing you want to do is record yourself, and you can do this speaking into your voice mail or any kind of recorder. Once you notice your favorite verbal virus, just train yourself to swallow or take a breath or pause instead of saying the annoying non-word – and the other tip is to ask a friend of yours to alert you every time you say that annoying word.
