Be very good about finishing up the jobs with people who are not celebrities. Remain professional with every client you work with.
Well, without mentioning too many names, and I’ve done a lot of celebrities, I can say that the most important thing that you can do: is be good at finishing up the jobs with the people who are not celebrities.
I found a couple of my students recently came to me with some problems because they couldn’t market to high-end clients or to celebrity types, and I said listen, “What I think you need to work on here, is work on the clients you currently have. Make sure that you do good jobs, great jobs for those people.” Why? Because I remember in my early years, before I was doing people like Marcus Allen or Candace Bergen or Robert Redford, I had people who were really not celebrity clients refer me to them.
Now, if you didn’t do a good job for those people who weren’t celebrities, do you think they would have referred me to the ones that are? Mm-mm, you have to be great, efficient, and detailed with every client you work with.
