You can be the best designer in the world but if you're not making any money, it doesn't matter.
Interviewer: What advice can you offer a designer on how to close the sale? You know what - designers frequently are doing a lot of free work.
Bobi Leonard: Well, closing a sale, and I’ve read every sales book there is, is to me, the most important part of this business. Why?
Understand that if you’re not making money, and you’re the greatest designer in the world – guess what? It doesn’t matter. But you’re making money, the way I did, you’re able to give back to our profession. You’re able to, when you feel like it, teach other designers. You’re able to give back in many other ways.
Now, closing the sale is all about letting a client know to hand you the money. When, how, and where. If you’re clear about those three things: when, how, and where, a client can’t help but want to give you what you’ve asked for.
