So many people work so hard to try to land a job and then they get on a job and they’re unhappy or unsuccessful. These are the keys to being a star at work. Number one, even if you’re a clerk think like a CEO, think of ways to come up with new ideas, better approaches and build relationships with your boss and other power players in the organization and share those ideas via e-mail, at meetings and verbally so you’re not just seen as another schlepper, but a guy whose an up and comer; or a woman, of course, whose an up and comer.
The other thing is get involved in your professional association and find the major trends. Be on the cutting edge of something that is going to either increase profits, streamline the organization. Those are two of the main keys to being successful in your new job.
