We all know about the brain being our nervous system, but what about the heart?
Did you know that you actually have two nervous systems and not one? We know about the one nervous system that we were taught about in school, it’s our brain. But you have a second nervous system that is equally and as profoundly powerful as that first nervous system, and it is namely - your heart.
Did you know that your heart has as many neurons, pound for pound, as your brain? That it’s basically got all kinds of neural-tissue built inside of it? That’s why we can take your heart out of your body and put it in somebody else’s body and transplant it, and your heart will actually keep pumping. But I can’t transplant your hand, because your hand is directly connected to your brain. Not only does your heart have neural-tissue in it, but your stomach, kidneys, liver and intestines are packed with neural-tissue.
You know how people say, “Follow your heart” or “Follow your gut”? Well, you actually can. What it means though, is following your heart and following your gut, is a question of – instead of paying attention to what’s reasonable, which what your brain is tells you to do, you pay attention to what’s meaningful.
