A lot of people feel that negative emotions are natural, but they're not. Find out more.
Negative emotions, you know, a lot of people feel that negative emotions are natural, I believe they are not. I believe negative emotions are normal, but they are totally unnatural.
The reason we have negative emotions is because every single one of those negative emotions has a payoff, and the reason we indulge them, is for the payoff. For example: what does a person get for being sad? They get sympathy, they get attention. Ok, if you want sympathy and attention, what do you do? Be sad, right? Ok, what about guilt? What does a person get for being guilty? Well, what kind of people do something wrong and feel no guilt? Those are bad people. So what kind of people do something wrong and feel really guilty? Those are really good people. So the reason we feel guilt is to let everybody know that we are a good person.
Every negative emotion has a positive kickback, if you identify what is the payoff you are getting from that negative emotion, you can ask for it and eliminate the negative emotion – you no longer need it.
