We know the one on one relationship is the most powerful. Establish that relationship and get 10 minutes of that mentor's time to instruct you on how to carry on your project. 10 minutes of their time every once in a while can contribute a great deal to your empowerment.
So, how do we actually create that mentor? We know the one on one relationship is the most powerful. It’s very simple; let me give you the guidelines for how mentoring works:
I have a number of people that I mentor and here’s what I do: People will walk up and say, “I have this project Greg, could you help me make it happen?” and here’s what I say, “I will spend ten minutes with you, if you call me on the phone, and I will give you some instructions on what you can do to make your project move forward”. At the end of that ten minutes, where done. If you do what I asked you to do, you have a right to call me back a week later and I’ll give you ten more minutes to forward your project.
You can actually create mentors for yourself. You can walk up to somebody that’s incredibly powerful and say, “Would you be my mentor? It will only take ten minutes a week. If you let me explain it to you, you will have an amazing opportunity to make a huge contribution and change someone’s life forever. That would be you”. You say to them, “I have this project, I’ll call you up, it’ll only take ten minutes a week, I’ll do everything you say or you can drop me as your mentee.” That’s how to create powerful mentors.
